Contemporary Drawing Practice

"When artistic practice becomes a means of escape, reality is something to be endured. When artistic practice is grounded in reality, reality itself becomes a source of fascination."

The practice is rooted in observation. Site sketches, photographs and field notes form the basis of work developed in the studio.

Drawing is used as a way of examining places, objects and behaviours encountered through everyday experience. Through observation, moments of tension, contradiction and reflection emerge. These fragments are then arranged into readable images that invite closer consideration of the world they originate from.
